Carbonia-Iglesias is a new province of the Sardinia Region and has been instituted in the 12 July 2001. Carbonia Iglesias comprises the territory of the historical regions of the Sulcis and the Iglesiente, today included in the Province of Cagliari. Carbonia Iglesias has had full operativity with expiration from the elections of May 2005.
CARBONIA
Carbonia are the main center of the Sulcis and were constructed in the arc of two years, when in 1938 it came proclamata the autarchy and the extractive activity of its coalmines had to be increased. IGLESIAS
Iglesias came founded in Middle Ages (1257) as mining center came occupied subsequently from the Aragoneses and is today famous for the handicraft working of silver.
The territory of Iglesias has a great variety of landscapes and has conserved a remarkable boschivo and botanical patrimony. The cultivated areas are little, ritagliate to hard work between the outcrops of granito, or compressed between the alluvial depressions and the southern coasts.
