Town of Medieval origin built after the destruction of Pompignano by the Saracens. The castle, with a Norman structure, was probabily restored by Giovanni Antonio Orsini Prince of Taranto who had Acqurica as a feud in 1432.
The tower is the prototype of fortification against the first fire-arms. The XVII century farm-house Celsorizzo was built around the defensive tower erected in the second half of XVI century. The neraby dovecoat tower Fabrizio Guarini was built in 1550. In the old town centre a lot of countryard houses are placed.
The second half nineteen century palace is to be noticed. Two XVI century hypogeum oil mills are situated nera the town hall and the church of Santa Maria Dei Panell, built in the XI century out of the old core. The Baroque church of Saint Carlo Borromeo was built in 1661 on an old structure sited near the castle.
