Cursi is a municipality in the province of Lecce, in the area of Salento in the Apulia region; Cursi is an ancienta roman centre, with many testinonies that preceding the age of bronze. Cursi was founded around 265 B.C. in the beginning as a post-stage and of change for the horses.
In the centuries of the high middle ages Cursi had the greek and byzantine monachism. The byzantine crypt is of the IX century. It was feud of the norman Tancredi and then Maremonti, of Venturi e of Cicinelli.
Small centre of roman origin and with menhir, situated at few km from Maglie. Extended on a flat territory, it confines with the towns of Melpignano, Bagnolo, Carpignano Sal., Castrignano dei Greci. The main economy concerns the industries of extraction and the working of the 'leccese' stone. The centre of Cursi is about 29.5 km far from Lecce and you can reach it from the main street num. 16, adriatica, and from other provincial streets.
