San Pietro in Lama is situated in the area of Cupa al centro on the Messapic plain; it has traces of human life since the Paleolithic age and larger population in theage of bronze and iron. Since Roman age the cultures of grapes and olives; many mines of red clay used for the production of tiles called 'imbrici'.

Donato-Martignano-Martano; anothe r path was the old street Lecce-Copertino and treads down the old street line between the city of Rudiae and Porto Cesareo, which gave origin to the island of St'Antonio, the first nucleus.
