Assisi, is little a town in the center of Italy, in province of Perugia, in the Umbria region. Assisi is famous in the world becouse is the birthplace of St. Francis, who founded the Franciscan religious order in the town in 1208.
Assisi has ancient origin; in the IX and VIII century was populated by the Umbrians, living in small fortified settlements on high ground. Then, about 450 BC these settlements were gradually taken over by the Etruscans Popolation. After the Romans took control of central Italy 295 BC and of Assisi too. In this period the city expanded its cultural, economic and artistic importance and remains from these times can still be found in Assisi: city walls, the forum, theatres, an amphitheatre and the Temple of Minerva.
