The province of Rieti door within of if a great historical character, conserving important monuments of medieval age. The cathedral (to its inside is remarkable paintings of authors of the 17° sec.), whose bell tower is of 1252; the arc of Bonifacio VIII (1298); the papal palace, with porch of 1283, concluded in 1288, with flank restored in 1532-35 (to the inside frescoes of V. Manenti); the church of S. Augustin and that one of S. Francisco (sec. 14°). In the territory of Rieti moreover four sanctuaries rise that are referred to the origins of the medioeval age: Greccio, Source Columbus (chiesetta of the 15° sec. with lignee sculptures of the 17°), Bustone Hill and the Forest (chiesetta of the 13° sec., widened in the 17°, with chiostro rinascimentale).
