Situated in the heart of florentine countryside, but yet very close (2 km) to the hystorical city center, Borgo al Poggiolino is an ancien tuscan mansion situated in a wide private park on Via Bolognese, near the European University. The rooms are very confortable and furnished with antique furniture and private services. The rooms also have entirely indipendent entrance, satellite television and a private open air space. There are also wide and confortable communal areas dedicated to riding and conversation, and a broad off the road private parking.
During the medieval times a small village, named La Pietra (which in Italian stands for stone), rose around that milestone, and heart of that village was, and is nowdays, Villa La Pietra, formerly home of Sir Harold Acton and now site of the New York University School of Law.
During the past Via Bolognese represented the main road which led the pilgrims from Florence to Bologne. Thereafter many resting-places and recoveries were built since the Middle Ages. Moreover, because of the mild climate conditions, the surrounding hills were chosen as the place to build many beautiful villas.
Borgo al Poggiolino rose through the centuries on what once was the fortified access to Villa La Loggia, formerly home to Brunetto Latini; the teacher who introduced Dante Alighieri to the art of writing. During the XV century this manor was handed over to the Pazzi’s family, but later on confiscated from them after their conspiracy against Giuliano and Lorenzo de’ Medici failed.
It is in this historical and charming context that Borgo al Poggiolino rises, surrounded by its broad garden typically rich of olive and fruit trees and of aromatic plants. The landlords have decided to transform into holiday houses the ancient agricultural buildings once used to shelter tools and to store harvests, having restored each building according to the typical tuscan country style.
Flats are very confortable and furnished with antique furniture. The flats also have entirely independent entrance, satellite television and a private open-air space. There are also wide and comfortable communal areas dedicated to reading and conversation, and a broad off the road private parking with access through Via di Careggi.
