Varese is one city of Gaulish origin. In medioevale age it made part of the Peasantry of the Seprio; to its fall, it passed under the domination of Milan.
It was "Common free" (for right granted from Carl V in 1538) until 1765; divenne Lordship of Francisco III of Este (the duca of Modena) until its dead women (1780) after returned Common.
Varese had from the Emperor of Austria the title it of City in 1816. It joined to the revolution of 1848; in Biumo locality, in the famous battle of 26 May 1859, the Garibaldini struck the Austrians. In the 1927 Varese divenne capoluogo of province. Varese is a city carefullied lay down on the necks and is encircled from many lagos.
The parks and the sweet landscape, to the feet of large "the Massive one of the Field of the Flowers" donate to the city a particular fascination that it does not lack to attract the tourist.
The varesino panorama, dominated from the beautiful Sacred Mount, seems to evoke the ancient splendor of the city, legacy to the age of gold of the holiday. The constant development of the Varese of the time h allowed its increase, is from the point of view craftsman-manufacturer who tourist-residential, increasing of still more the well-being general.
Its natural beauties earned them the name of "city-garden", than still it maintains. But its attractions invest also the artistic-cultural sphere: beautifulst, in all the province the Romanesque-Lombardic religious architecture; examples do not lack castles fresco or the rinascimentale villa to you, while many are the palaces and the villas of the ' 700 with splendid ones garden to the Italian. Not to forget, moreover, the important historical centers of Castelseprio and Castiglione Olona, rich of monuments and works of art.
Between the more important city monuments we find: The BASILICA OF SAINT VITTORE (century XVI - XVII), II BELL TOWER of the Basilica (first half of century XVII), said "of the Bernascone", the BAPTISTRY OF SAINT GIOVANNI (century XII - XIII).
